ABOUT US
Our Story
Formerly Grant Cox Enterprises, Inc., Beth Cox Enterprises, Inc. dba Greenleaf Landscapes & Tarpitz Gardening & Landscapes is proud to be alive and well 27 years after its inception in 1999. Prior to incorporating, named for a local surf spot and adopting the infamous TPL logo, Tarpitz Gardening & Landscapes began in 1999, along with two brothers who had just moved to Carpinteria from Washington, originally from Mexico.
After securing a handful of maintenance accounts in Carpinteria and Santa Barbara, it became evident that there was an incredible niche in Santa Barbara County for landscape maintenance and construction. Three years later, the company incorporated and obtained a landscaping contractor's license, and the landscape construction division emerged as Greenleaf Landscapes.
Beth ran the back office, while raising two small children and juggling a law firm. To relieve some of her load she brought in her sister, Samantha Dowdall-Green who helped further develop the office and human resource systems. Samantha was truly an asset to the beginning stages of the company, and after about seven years decided to take a different path, but was always there in support.
In 2012, Beth Cox left her Santa Barbara law firm, where she had practiced for a decade, to run the company full-time — a move that also allowed her more time for her two children and her passion for community volunteering.
Twenty-seven years later, the corporation has grown from those two brothers— one of them still employed with the company— to 40+ employees, over 100 maintenance accounts from Carpinteria to Goleta, and Landscape Construction Projects from San Francisco to Beverly Hills to Malibu and beyond.
Meet Our Team

Owner
The backbone of our company. His even keeled and calming spirit exudes confidence and morale in our employees. He is the direct contact for many renowned Santa Barbara and Ventura County Landscape Architects, Contractors, and all of our clients.
Jesus started with the company in 2012 when he was just 25 years old. Shortly after he began, we started one of the largest jobs we have completed to date— The Allegretto Hotel & Resort in Paso Robles, California.
Jesus, along with our original employee, Rica Ramirez and another 5 of our employees were housed in a rental Monday-Friday for almost three years while they landscaped this beautiful piece of property under Jesus’s supervision and attention to detail. Check out the website, it is such a gem of a property. https://www.allegrettovineyardresort.com/
Jesus has been vital over the last almost fifteen years as he excels at communication and is a landscape visionary.
General ManagerJesus Vasquez
Maintenance ManagerGabe Pena
Gabe joined us ten years ago, and we have benefitted in so many ways. Gabe came from another landscape company in Santa Barbara and so was very familiar in the areas of landscaping, irrigation and maintenance.
Born and raised in Carpinteria, Gabe already knew many of our clients and brought in some of his own family and friends as clients.
Gabe works incredibly well with anyone in his realm and is also one of those calm, cool and collected people that we are so lucky to have on our team.
Our employees respect him and our clients adore him, as he is always ready to take care of any extras and or any requests or whims our clients may have to improve their property and maintenance thereof.
Avery Gideon
Office ManagerAvery began with the company in November 2021.
He assists Beth, Jesus and Gabe with all those little things they are too busy to get to.
We appreciate his efforts in maintaining our Human Resources Division and other office management.
He steps in with estimating our many bids and streamlines them accordingly for the next phase of labor production and landscape installation.
We are fortunate to have Avery behind all of our busy schedules to keep things in the office running smoothly.
